Civil as well as criminal charges were brought against the organizers of the strike and Debs in particular, and the Supreme Court issued a unanimous decision, In re Debs, validating Cleveland’s actions. Nevertheless, President Cleveland’s bid for renomination at the 1896 Democratic National Convention failed because of his response to the strike.”

The turn of the century was insane with all the conflict between massive industrialists and a burgeouning socialist movement. Whenever people tell me that American history is boring, I just point them to these folks.
